Down payment and trade-in change how much you finance; they do not erase the value paid toward the vehicle. Total vehicle cost is price + calculated tax + interest.
Your payoff path.
Each payment first covers that month’s interest; the remainder reduces principal. Switch views or download the monthly rows as a CSV.

Rounding may create a small difference between displayed totals and the final row. The last payment is adjusted to clear the remaining balance.
Standard loan math. No mystery.
This calculator uses the standard fixed-payment amortization formula. It assumes one payment per month and a constant interest rate for the full term.
Payment = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1)P is amount financed, r is APR divided by 12, and n is the number of monthly payments. At 0% APR, payment is simply P ÷ n.
Tax is calculated before the down payment.
The down payment reduces borrowing, not the vehicle’s selling price. Trade-in tax treatment follows the option you select.
Total cost includes what you bring to the deal.
Down payment, trade-in value and every loan payment are counted. That makes it easier to compare financing structures without hiding upfront value.
The dealer’s contract is the final source.
Confirm the APR, compounding, payment frequency, taxes and fees on the written finance agreement. This page is an estimate, not a lender quote.

Auto loan questions.
How is an auto loan payment calculated?
The calculator uses the standard fixed-payment amortization formula. It converts the annual rate to a monthly rate, then spreads principal and interest across the selected number of monthly payments.
Does a trade-in reduce vehicle sales tax?
It can in some provinces and states, but the rule varies by jurisdiction and transaction. Use the calculator’s trade-in tax treatment control and confirm the treatment on the dealer’s written quote.
Is the down payment included in total vehicle cost?
Yes. Total vehicle cost including financing is shown as down payment plus trade-in value plus all scheduled loan payments. This equals vehicle price, calculated tax and interest when no extra fees are entered.
What costs are not included?
The estimate excludes dealer documentation charges, registration, licensing, insurance, warranties and other add-ons unless they are already included in the vehicle price you enter.
What happens with a zero-percent loan?
At zero percent, the amount financed is divided evenly by the number of payments, so total interest is zero.
