NRCan publishes weekly. Spotted a different price at the pump today? Report it anonymously — community reports appear below the city’s official price, clearly labelled.
The prices come from Natural Resources Canada, which publishes average retail prices every week (usually on Tuesdays, for the week ending the previous Tuesday). We pull the latest data every day, so this page refreshes the moment NRCan publishes a new week.
These are weekly averages across surveyed stations in each city, taxes included. Individual stations can be several cents above or below the average on any given day — especially right after a price reset. Use the city average as your benchmark, then shop the cheapest stations near you.
It's a simple signal computed from each city's own data: this week's price change, the 4-week trend, and the retail marketing margin NRCan reports. When margins go negative, stations are selling at a loss and a hike usually follows — that's a FILL UP NOW. When prices are falling and margins are healthy, waiting can pay off — that's a WAIT. Otherwise we say STEADY: no clear signal.
Our data is weekly, so we can't measure daily cycles from it — and we won't pretend otherwise. Industry analysts do report that Ontario prices often reset mid-week, so if you drive in Ontario, checking a daily tracker before you fill up can help. The trend signal above is what our data can verify.
Yes. NRCan's retail prices include all federal and provincial fuel taxes plus GST/HST, which is a big part of why prices differ so much between provinces.
